Planet Stronghold: Colonial Defense takes players back to the early settlement days of the Planet Stronghold colony. In a twist of fate, two siblings, Captains Alex and Diana Nelson, find themselves stranded in the same colony. Players can assume the role of one of them and unravel the mysteries and dangers that lurk on Planet Stronghold while getting to know the unique personalities of their team members.

The game offers a significant card-collectible component that is both straightforward to grasp yet challenging to excel in. The ability to upgrade cards adds depth to gameplay, enhancing replay value, particularly on more advanced difficulty settings.

For those more inclined towards the narrative and visual novel/dating sim elements, the option to engage in "Visual Novel Mode" allows players to immerse themselves in the game's dialogues and beautifully illustrated artwork. With eight characters to build relationships with, players have the opportunity for romance if they navigate interactions skillfully.
